CONCRETE BENCHES FOR SUSTRANS NATIONAL CYCLE NETWORK

Making mosaics for the benches, Lewisham Bridge School

Art in the Park was commissioned by Lewisham Council to design and make five concrete benches to be sited along the Lewisham section of a national cycleway which runs North to South across the borough and passes very close to Lewisham Bridge School.>

Each bench includes two mosaic panels, on a theme of transport, designed and made by a Year three class and their teacher from Lewisham Bridge School, working alongside WM Hudson and Andrea Sinclair. The benches will also be bases for a set of cast iron mileposts which Sustrans have provided. The artists designed the benches, but they have been cast by a reputable pre-casting concrete company. They were installed in March 2000 and the cycleway itself will be completed and have a public opening in June 2000.
