Pewter Jewellery and Home Decorations

“Make some pieces of jewellery or house decoration using cast pewter, for instance handles, knobs, pulls and other possibilities.”

Examples of pewter craft, rose, leaf and hand handle

Course overview:

This two day course instructs students in the use of crafting several pieces of pewter jewellery or home decorations. This is a unique and elegant form of craft.

The process will involved a demonstration of activity and look at examples. We will then proceed to sketch and design, carving and modelling shapes to be cast in wax or sculptors’ clay before pouring into silicon rubber moulds. Next is the casting of pewter into the moulds ending up with finishing and polishing the pieces made.

Good quality pewter contains over 90% tin and 0% lead content. The consistency of the material means that you can easily make them by hand. Being handmade means that each individual piece you take home with you is unique. These can be polished to a fantastic shine or left to show original colour of the working - both methods allow for two very different designs.
