Pewter Casting

Pewter leaf jewelry"Make a piece of pewter jewellery, using the ancient technique of casting into a cuttlefish bone."

Course Overview:

This one day course instructs students in the use of crafting pewter jewellery. This is a unique and elegant form of jewellery.

The process will involve a demonstration of activity and look at examples before moving onto drawing & designing. We will then be carving cuttlefish bone, pouring pewter into these cuttlefish moulds, finishing and polishing.

Good quality pewter contains over 90% tin and 0% lead content. The consistency of the material means that you can easily make jewellery pieces by hand. Being handmade means that each individual piece of jewellery you take home with you is unique. These jewellery can be polished to a fantastic shine or left to show original colour of the working - both methods allow for two very different designs.
