"Overground Uncovered: Life along the line"

"As part of London Transport Museum’s major temporary exhibition, Overground Uncovered: Life along the line, Community Curators from the Museum worked with Andrea Sinclair and Bill Hudson from Art in the Park to run a ceramics project with Rainbow Arts, an elders arts organisation in Southwark.

The project was one of a series which examined the impact of a new London Overground line on the surrounding communities. Meeting once a week over a five week period in spring 2010, the group worked together to explore what their local area means to them, pinpointing landmarks and cultural highlights.

Art in the Park then taught the group how to translate these ideas into illustrations, using Delft-inspired blue paints on ceramic tiles. The individual tiles were then mounted and framed by Art in the Park, creating a beautiful artwork which is on display at London Transport Museum from May 2010 to March 2011.

The contribution by Art in the Park to this project was invaluable, and the skills learned by the participants have inspired them to continue working with ceramics in future projects. The relationships developed throughout the project are also to be sustained through a continued partnership between Rainbow Arts and Art in the Park, with tutors from Art in the Park offering their services to the group on a regular basis."
