Hexagon Project

This project was designed to involve the Odessa Street youth club. The large circular mosaic is situated in a small garden on Bonding Yard Walk, Rotherhithe and is part of the Hexagon housing area.

For the design, the young people looked at maps of the area, past and present. They used drawing and tracing to work with different areas of the map, including old and new images of docks. These drawings were then developed into an overall design by artist Jane Higginbottom.

The young people worked on small individual sections of mosaic before finally inserting them into a larger piece. The mosaic was then laid and grouted by artists and volunteers from the Art in the Park studio.
