Heart Gardens
Art in the Park’s pioneering project the Heart Garden has been given a boost of 5 years lottery funding from the Big Lottery – Creating Communities.
Originally set up by Art in the Park artists in partnership with Southwark General Practices and health professionals it is hosted by Southwark’s Park division.
Artist Jane Higginbottom and Artist/gardener Rebecca Scott began the scheme by organising a range of activities for the Heart Gardeners including growing vegetables for healthy eating, making a mosaic table and working on the area in front of Art in the Park to change concrete into a floral display.
Patients with CHD and long term illness can be referred to the project which has an emphasis on friendly, social activities and holistic health. We are also working in conjunction with Tricia Easton who brings a group from SLAM every spring and summer.
The Heart Garden runs on Friday mornings with a meal on the last Friday of the month and is now run by artists Andrea Sinclair, Jill Newman and Rebecca Scott. It has also received generous funding from The Peter Minet trust and Aylesbury N.D.C.
