TEAM-BUILDING
THROUGH SCULPTURE
Team working on free-standing sculpture
The accompanying photographs show a recent "Team-building through Sculpture"
day which a group from Victim Support undertook (an organisation which
provides support in courts). The day was intended to draw together a geographically
dispersed group and also introduce three new members of staff.
The day included
two art projects: a collaborative jig-saw puzzle of plaster reliefs (which
we have framed for the participants' office) and two teams working on
free-standing sculptures built with willow and a variety of found and
readymade objects and materials.
Throughout the day
two artist-trainers facilitated discussions on the artwork and the group
dynamics, with reference to 'Belbin' team roles. The participants were
able to playfully explore the materials and devise new ways of communicating
and working with each other in an environment which inspired creativity
and collaboration.
Future plans: We
are in the process of devising a variety of workshops using different
art materials and techniques. We aim to strike the perfect balance between
the enjoyable practical work and theoretical analysis of the group dynamics.
Following a consultation with Human Resources and other representatives
of each team, we aim to devise our workshops to suit the specific needs
of each group.
